The Farm Demo Conference (Brussels, 21st May) was the largest event designed in the EU to support peer-to-peer learning within the farming community. It’s the result of the close collaboration between the 3 FarmDemo projects and gave the opportunity to present an overview of the main outputs and resources by these projects.
The event brought together 200 participants, including farmers, advisors, researchers, policy makers, industries and other actors interested in on-farm demonstrations and willing to learn, discuss and share experiences and good practices for organising these events with impact.
In fact, commercial farmers and innovation actors actively involved in demos were the first voices heard at the conference, sharing their experiences on hosting and/or organising this kind of events.
Then, the parallel discussions gave the opportunity to discover how to improve the organisation of demos and increase their impact, including not only good practices for the farming community but also recommendations for policy makers and AKIS.
In addition, during the interactive walking tour, the participants could put hands on it and explore the various tools and resources by the Farm Demo projects, as for example the virtual farm demonstration, the inventory of demonstration farms, the Networks or the guide for designing events.
Finally, the discussion table offered some insights about the future of farm demonstrations in the EU and highlighted the relevance of farm demonstration to enhance knowledge sharing and innovation uptake in agriculture.
